Our Congregation of the Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate was founded in Poland on October 7, 1878, by Blessed Honorat Kozminski, a Polish Franciscan Capuchin.
Our Motherhouse is located in Poland and presently there is a membership of 800 sisters worldwide. We have houses in Poland, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia and Africa.
In the United States, the Congregation initiated it's ministry in 1935 and its houses are located in Catonsville, MD (Provincial House); Hyattsville, MD; Silver Spring, MD and Cleveland, OH. Sisters are engaged in following diversified ministries: health care, early childhood education, social action, pastoral/parish work, outreach nursing care, and variety of other apostolic works.
The Sisters wear no distinctive garb, that is, the community is non-habited. We strive to imitate Jesus, our Lord and Bridegroom, in the mystery of his HIDDEN LIFE, which he practiced in Nazareth and continues to practice by his hidden presence in the Church today-hidden in the sacraments, especially in the Eucharist, and in each of our neighbors…. Sisters strive to exert influence on the Christian formation of human society from within-after the model of evangelical leaven. Sisters profess the vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience.
Sisters live communal life with emphasis on communal prayer of Divine Office, meditation, and Rosary.
The spirituality of our community is Christocentric, Marian and Franciscan.
Our motto is “Love Mary and serve her faithfully.”
