Eight centuries ago St. Dominic de Guzman, inspired by the Holy Spirit in response to the needs of his time, founded an Order with the mission of preaching for the salvation of souls. Dominic’s love for God and neighbor continues to inspire the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia Congregation today, as they joyfully embrace the Church’s call to the new evangelization through the apostolate of teaching. The Sisters have the privilege of serving over 16,000 students in 41 schools in the United States, Canada, Australia, and Italy. Under the protection and guidance of Mary, the Sisters seek to live in fidelity to the Church and bring souls of today to know and love Jesus.
Founded in 1860 in Nashville, Tennessee the Congregation of St. Cecilia today numbers nearly 300 Sisters who live a contemplative-apostolic life of community, study, and apostolic service in a monastic framework that fosters contemplation. The Congregation is marked by a spirit of joy, love for the Church, and devotion to truth.
