Franciscan Sisters Third Order Regular of Penance of the Sorrowful Mother

Founded in 1988 in the diocese of Steubenville, Ohio, we are Franciscan contemplative penitents committed to works of mercy and evangelization. We strive to make known God’s merciful love through the rhythm of our life of prayer, work, and ministry. Our charisms include crucified love, mercy, poverty, and contemplation.  Our apostolates include service to the poor, campus ministry, spiritual direction, nursing home visitation, and periodic outreach.

We participate in daily Mass, Eucharistic adoration, two daily holy hours, Liturgy of the Hours, the rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, praise and worship and charismatic prayer, and hermitage days.

We are based in the following locations: Our Lady of Sorrows Monastery, Toronto, Ohio (Motherhouse); San Damiano house, Toronto, Ohio;  Heart of Mary mission house, Steubenville, Ohio (inner-city); Santa Chiara mission house, Franciscan University of Steubenville, main campus; Greccio mission house, Franciscan University of Steubenville, Austrian campus, and St. Elizabeth mission house, Tallahassee, Florida (close to Florida State University).
