Emmanuel Motherhouse & Retreat House
8353 Pleasant Chapel Road
Newark, OH 43056
Our Community began to take shape in 2002 in Newark Ohio, prompted by the desire to make Jesus loved in the Most Blessed Sacrament. In 2016 we were raised to a Public Association of the Faithful in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati by then Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr (now Archbishop Emeritus), who approved our Constitutions. In 2022, we transferred to the Diocese of Columbus (under Bishop Earl K. Fernandes), where our Motherhouse is currently located.
Our charism and purpose of existence is to quench the Thirst of Jesus to be loved in the Most Blessed Sacrament. Consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, we strive to make every moment of our lives a ceaseless act of love to Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
One day, opening His Divine Heart during Eucharistic Adoration,
Jesus told St. Margaret Mary Alacoque:
“Behold the Heart which has so loved men that It has spared nothing, even to exhausting and consuming Itself, in order to testify Its love; and in return, I receive from the greater part only ingratitude by their irreverence and sacrilege and by the coldness and contempt they have for Me in this Sacrament of Love.”
As a Semi-Apostolic Community with a strong emphasis on prayer and contemplation, we offer ourselves as Brides of Christ in a spirit of sacrificial love to satiate Jesus’ Thirst in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
We live our Charism firstly, by giving Him our love through our fidelity to daily attendance at Holy Mass, Hours of silent Adoration and Community Prayer (Chanting of the Divine Office, Rosary, and Chaplet of Divine Mercy), as well as practicing the presence of God in the silence of daily life as we go about our work. Secondly, by praying that all people throughout the world will know and love Him and be faithful members of His Holy Catholic Church; doing the small tasks of daily life with great love for God and souls. Thirdly, our love for God and zeal for souls compels us to our various apostolates of hospitality and evangelization (providing retreat-houses, giving talks, leading Parish Encounters, and visiting schools, the imprisoned, the poor, and the elderly).
We welcome young women who are interested in discerning with our Community to contact our vocation director to learn more about our life and vocation, and consider joining us for a “come and see” discernment retreat.
