The Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy is an active/contemplative congregation founded to participate directly in the mission of God’s mercy. St. Faustina Kowalska, a perpetually professed member of our order, records in her “Diary” Jesus’ plea, not only to her, but also to each sister: “I thirst. I thirst for the salvation of souls. Help me, My daughter, to save souls.”(Diary 1032)
Each sister makes Jesus’ desire for the salvation of souls her own. St. John Paul II captured our apostolic mission in his address to us at our Shrine of Divine Mercy in Cracow, Poland: “Christ… has called you to a particular apostolate, that of His Mercy…The people of today need your proclamation of mercy: they need your works of mercy and they need your prayer to obtain mercy.”
And so, we are sent out to the men and women of our times to confidently proclaim the message of Divine Mercy, to implore His mercy for the world by prayer and sacrifice and to make God’s unconditional love present and visible in the Church and in the world.
In a word, we strive to bring parched and weary souls to the fountain of Divine Mercy.
Founded in 1862 in Poland, we are now present in many countries. We have two convents in the United States: Boston, MA and Washington, DC. The formation house for American and English speaking candidates is located in Boston. Candidates should have a high-school diploma, good physical and mental health, and be between the ages of 18-35.
